  2. (DO NOT READ, unless you want the ending to be ruined)

I think Iron Man is the best because when the space creatures were coming down for war, the only way to save everyone on earth was if someone took the rocket launcher missile, that was about to hit a big chunk of the city, up through the cube portal item that started this whole war. By that, the missile would explode the creatures that were up there on the other side, instead of the potential of exploding the citizens of 'merica.
Plus, Iron Man was being selfless by risking himself in many ways including: risking himself to be trapped up there forever because the portal cube was going to be closed right as he went up. OR death; by launching himself up there that fast, which could have definitely killed him due to the heat and if the weapon were to explode with him holding it.

AND, I echo Heather. Robert Downey Jr. is pretty fine. -Nikki

  3. Ok folks, I guess I’ll enter this.
We shall do this by process of elimination.

Hulk- Big dude, genius, causes more trouble than he’s worth. Out.

Hawkeye- Spends half the movie as a bad guy, cool with the bow thing, but not that cool. Out.

Black Widow- She’s a spy, you can never tell with spies, the martial arts stuff is nifty, but her motivation is
    somewhat questionable. Out.

Thor- Now we’re getting somewhere, effectively invulnerable, can do the lightening thing, considerably more noble in his motivations than the previous three, and he’s got inherent awesomeness which the others lack. Problem: He beat Loki once, why on earth did he take so long to finish the job this time? It seems like he could have done a lot more than he showed. So, reluctantly, I say Out.

Iron Man- Pretty awesome, definitely wittier than the others, but also overweeningly arrogant. He looses major points for that, and the fact that he is motivated pretty much only by personal ambition/gratification. I hate to rank him above Thor, but he is the only one who really develops as a character, and by his self sacrifice the earth is saved. However, when it comes to honor and virtue, he still is lacking. So, I have to say Out.

The only guy left is Captain America. He has several major advantages over the others. 1) He’s a soldier. That means he knows how to take orders, and how to give orders. He understands how to put aside personal ambition in favor of his cause or his men. This makes him the only possible leader for the Avengers. 2) He’s a relic of another age, a time when honor and virtue actually meant something. 3) Although he is a soldier, he submits himself to the cause of protecting the weak. Even his weapon of choice reflects this. 4) He is not afraid to stand up to the other Avengers in moral issues.

It is character, not ability, that is the true measure of a hero. By this criterion, I will unreservedly assert that Captain America is the “best” of the Avengers.

    1. Very valid points - ya'all are going to have to really battle with your arguments because many of you are voting the same way. Keep in mind that Kevin is picking the winner and that you must be present to win!! (Yes! That is a ploy to see your smiling face at youth group again.) ;)

  5. SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT
I change my answer from Iron Man because I actually saw the movie. I think Nikki has a valid point when she says Iron Man risked his life to save Earth, but would he have done that without the push from Captain America? No. Absolutely not. In his past movies (and for most of this one), he was nothing but a self-centered, egotistical, genius super "hero". When he finally met Captain America, CA called him out on his inappropriate behavior. Others have tried and failed many times but CA was the only one who got through to him. He made it clear it IM that being a super hero doesn't mean you need to worry about how you and the person/ people you are saving are going to get out of the situation you are in, but ONLY how they will get out of it. You need to worry about your own safety after everyone else is out of danger. IM didn't expect to come back down to Earth when he took the missile up, he expected to die, and for that I applaud him. But there is no way he would have even thought about risking himself without the push from CA. Therefore, Captain America is the best Avenger because he was the beginning of a chain reaction that led to the saving of the world as we know it.

Also Nikki and Allison are hilarious. If it was based on qt-ness, Captain America would still win. In a close second comes Iron Man.
